Royal Enfield 1932 Model 1120 cc

Model : Royal Enfield KX 1120 cc

The largest capacity engine RE has ever made.

Predominantly built to be an ideal side car machine. These were built to be leisurely cruisers to take the family in tow.

The last word in luxury motorcycling’ was how Royal Enfield headlined the Model K in their 1938 sales brochure. It was powered by a mighty 1,140cc, side-valve, twin-cylinder engine with totally enclosed valve gear and Royal Enfield’s dry-sump lubrication system.
This powerful unit combined with a heavyweight, four-speed, hand-controlled gearbox to ensure that the Model K with standard ratios was ideal for both sidecar and solo use. Lucas 6 volt Magdyno lighting was standard as was black enamel finish with gold lining.

The top-of-the-range Model KX featured detachable and interchangeable wheels and was marketed in solo form at £77/10s ‘or by gradual payments’.
In solo form the KX boasted 80mph performance and 65mpg economy at touring speeds. Remarkably the KX was one of no less than 18 different models marketed by Royal Enfield in the 1938 season.

Note: This motorcycle was recently sold for close to 30,000 $ in the UK

Interceptor

This was the last year that the Constellation was produced before it was phased out and the legendary INTERCEPTOR was put into production.

The Connie was one of RE's best motorcycle but sadly had a very weak gearbox that could not handle the power that was being produced.

The 700cc Constellation launched in the USA in 1957, first appeared in Britain in 1958, along with a new, much lighter 500, the Meteor Minor. With new engine castings, the 'Connie' was sportier with a very robust bottom end, hot cams and, initially a single racing Amal TT carburettor.

With a suitably tuned cylinder head, the resulting bike was a real road-burner capable of well over 110mph. On test, it bettered I 15mph. The racing carb disappeared in favour of twin Monoblocs in 1959, but the bike was still fast -although it soon gained a reputation for fragility, while the front brake was inadequate for the power and speed. In fact, there were a number of niggles, which meant that the model never achieved the popularity of the Triumph twins, despite its theoretical advantages and better acceleration.
